Set your body to burn stored belly fat for fuel

You have been dieting, exercising, and losing weight, but still you cannot lose that belly fat. 

Here is my Way #2 on Ways to loose belly fat.

For 3 or 5 days – Include more protein choices in your menu than heavy carbs to boost your metabolism.

Why?  Protein will lower your insulin levels, helps you curb your appetite and boost your metabolism to use stored fat as fuel, burn more calories.  This means that you will be burning belly fat.  Fact is that consuming more carbs than protein have the risk of storing fat, if not using all calories during the day. 

What do I mean?  Simply, if you keep eating mostly carbs (bread, rice, pasta, candies, cakes) and low protein choices, at the end of the day you will be piling on empty calories which become stored fat … and guess where that fat usually goes?  …. you got it!  Usually goes to our BELLY, our MIDSECTION, BUTT, LEGS…

This is why this week you will set your body to burn stored belly fat by adjusting your weight loss menu.  You dont have to go to extremes.  During this week, you can have your carbs, but the KEY is to have 1 or 2 protein choices in every meal.

For example,

Breakfast

  • 2 or 3 protein choices (eggs, *protein shake, yogurt, soya, milk, tofu, etc) 
  • Fresh fruits
  • whole grain cereal rich in protein, such as GO LEAN (13 gr. of protein)

Snack

  • 1 or 2 protein choices
  • green tea

Lunch

  • 1 protein (chicken, turkey)
  • Fresh vegetables or steamed
  • Fresh fruits
  • 1 small potato, or brown rice

Snack

  • 1 or 2 protein choices
  • 1 fruit (you can have fresh mint with fruits)
  • green tea

Dinner

  • 1 or 2 protein choices, such as chicken without skin.
  • Fresh green salad or mixed.  Use lemon or apple cider vinegar for your dressing. Mix with 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
  • green tea

*Protein shake, will help you to boost your metabolism to get rid of stored fat, burning more calories.  You will not jeopardize your health, but get all the appropriate nutrients.

Planning your menu in advance will help you keep track.  Try to keep a daily weight loss journal to write what you eat.  It will be easier for you.  Drink your 8 glasses of water throughout the day.

Ballroom dancing to burn fat, burn calories, and increase metabolism

Do you want to shape up, lose weight, and tone your body?  A fun and effective way to burn stored fat and increase your metabolism is by practicing ballroom dancing.  The different dances: Jive, Swing, Tango, Salsa, Merengue, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha cha cha, Quickstep, and Paso Doble give you a fun complete workout. 

  • Burning body fat will help you get rid of belly fat too and those love handles.

  • You can go out dancing knowing that dancing will maximize your weight loss plan. 

  • Have in mind that to lose 1 pound of stored fat, you need to burn 3500 calories.

What a better way to meet new people, have fun, get fit, and maybe even finding a soulmate or getting closer to your soulmate.  Instead of going to the gym and breaking a routine, dress up and go out to a Ballroom Dancing place.  You will have fun, practice your dancing steps and even learn new routines. 

Don’t know the basic steps? Don’t worry, because many places offer free lesson or you can even buy a ballroom dancing DVD, such as “Dancing with the Stars”  Cardio Dance (includes Cha cha cha, paso doble, jive, and samba) Music is fun!

Dancing With the Stars - Cardio Dance

If you are not ready for a high intensity dance, do not lose hope!  Even moderate ballroom dancing can help you burn between 250 and 300 calories per hour.  If you increase to an intermediate intensity, a more vigorous dancing, you can burn up to 400 calories.  Everything depends on your speed and intensity.  The point is to dance as much as you can. You can take pauses.  Ideally, try to be dancing for at least 20 minutes.

For example, fast salsa and merengue are my favorite dances to burn fat, increase my heart beat rate, and boost my metabolism.  Salsa is a latin dance, sexy, sensual, lively, and expressive. It helps you tone your midsection, lower body, and add flexibility.  You can either dance alone or with a partner.  Merengue is a high intensity dance to burn more calories. 

On the other hand, the lambada, samba, and rumba also can make you burn up to 800 calories per hour, depending your speed and intensity. Imagine, you can have more fun dancing in 1 hour than running 1 hour on the treadmill!   

You can dance foxtrot, slow rumba, cha cha cha, and waltz to slow down or get some rest.  They are more low impact.   After you recover, then you can go start again the cycle: medium intensity to high intensity.  Dance to the rhythm of swing, jive, salsa, and merengue.  Make sure you drink water to keep hydrated and limit your alcohol drinks.

So, it’s Saturday night fever again! So, go ahead, prepare your best wardrobe and go out ballroom dancing to burn fat, increase your metabolism, get a toned body, burn belly fat, and get rid of love handles.  Time to shine like the pros in “Dancing with the Stars” , but here YOU ARE THE STAR.

Dance to your heart’s content, love is in the air, and losing weight has never been so fun!

Friday, plan your cardio exercise for the weekend and burn fat

It’s Friday! You have been working hard, following your weight loss plan, and exercising.

Now, it is time to prepare for the weekend. Think what kind of activity you can do to have fun while burning calories and pursuing your weight loss goal.

Here are some fun physical activities you can participate during the weekend to continue burning fat:

  • Going out dancing ( show your new dancing steps, or learn new steps, and even burn fat while having fun)
  • Hiking
  • Picnic (go to a nice open area where you can do some jogging, running)
  • Marathon (get some friends together and join a marathon, walkathon)
  • Gym class (take an aerobic class, dancing class.  It will be a fun 1 hour to boost your metabolism and burn fat)
  • Skating
  • Swimming ( a swimming party, swimming and picnic)
  • Beach (this is ideal for swimming, joggning, running, doing some strengthening exercises.  Get your sunblock!)
  • Watch your favorite TV show or sport match while doing the treadmill, elliptical

I am already set for BALLROOM DANCING!  It is my favorite fun cardio activity.  I have such a good time and burn stored fat too while dancing!   You bet when I hear a JIVE or a Merengue, I concentrate and dance to the rhythm to increase my heart beat and burn more calories.  When I need to slow down, then, I can dance a foxtrot or a waltz.

The point is to have fun while pursuing our weight loss goal.

So, if you are in Granada Hills, California area …. I see you at the Ballroom Dancing Floor!

Improvising A Weight Loss Menu during a last minute invitation

Have you ever been invited at the last minute to go out with friends for swimming and barbeque?  What to do when you arrive and see mostly junk food, heavy calories dressing? Do you break your weight loss menu plan? What do you do?

Well, I tell you what I did.  My friends invited me to go swimming and have fun.  Immediately, just before packing my swimsuit, sunblock, and water, I thought, “wait… let me just in case pack a protein shake and some fresh fruits.”  When it was time to eat, I took a quick look at the menu they had… sadly, very few healthy choices. 

Then, I remember, I had my protein shake and my fruits.  So, I took some of the healthy food available and avoided completely the JUNK FOOD.  I prepared my weight loss menu (jello, salad with lemon juice instead of the heavy salad dressing, my protein shake, fresh fruits,  basmati rice.. 1 matzo with tomatoes and basil)

 I had such a wonderful time at the pool and luckily a “healthy meal” to keep up my nutrition.

Corn salad for Faster Metabolism and Increase Energy

Do you know that just 2 ears of corn can help you boost your metabolism? The 2 ears contain 20 percent of the daily recommended amount of manganese.  Manganese stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more triiodothyronine (T3).  It is a hormone that increases the body’s fat-burning metabolic rate. 

Moreover,  a cup of corn provides 15 percent of the daily recommended amount of panthothenic adic.  This is part of the B-vitamin  that serves as energy boosting because is used by mitochondria to transform more complex carbohydrates into glucose, which is a form of usable energy.

I made this fresh Corn Salad with Mint, orange, basil and fennel to help me increase my metabolism while improving my digestion with the benefits of basil, fennel, and mint.  Parsley, mint, and fennel can help you get rid of bloated feeling and get a flat ab.  Nutrition and exercises are your key to lose weight and those loved handles.  It is a simple, fresh, and healthy salad to add to your weight loss menu.

You can use the following ingredient for this salad and add some of your favorite herbs too:

  • 1 cup of corn
  • 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite grain ( I used bhulgur here)
  • mint (to your taste)
  • basil (to your taste)
  • parsley (to your taste)
  • fresh fennel (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 or 2 lemon and
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (this is optional
  • salt and pepper to taste

Enjoy your fresh Corn Salad with Mint, Basil, Fennel, Orange, and Parsley and the benefits for boosting your metabolism to burn stored fat and belly fat.  Buon Appetito.

Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance Review

Do you want a good way to burn calories, shed pounds, get toned, and having fun at the same time? Then, I strongly suggest the “Dancing with the Stars” dvd cardio exercise to start losing weight while learning how to dance like the pro.  The 3 instructors are from the show: Ashly Costa, Kym Johnson, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.   

The dances are 4: Paso Doble, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, and Jive. Imagine, we need to burn 3500 calories for each pound of stored fat.  So, let’s start dancing to burn those calories and shed pounds! 

Dancing With the Stars - Cardio Dance

If you have watched the show and love the dancing routines, then, go get this DVD. 

I bought this “Dancing with the Stars” cardio exercise because I love dancing. It is a good excuse to exercise while having fun, getting a toned body, burning calories, losing pounds, and even getting rid of belly fat! 

The instructions are well explained.  Good thing is that one doesn’t need a partner to start learning the dancing routines. Of course, if you can get a partner to practice your steps, it will be just great.

1. The CHA CHA CHA section. 

The routine, steps are simple, although they look complicated.  It is a medium-intensity workout. This is one of my favorite part. Ashly transmits so much confidence, and happiness when dancing.  She makes you feel that you really can learn how to dance the CHA CHA CHA like the professionals in the show: sexy, lively and flirtatious.  Way to go Ashly!    

This medium-intensity dancing routine will help you tone mostly your midsection.  I notice improvement with my abs and waistline.  You can get great abs exercises just by doing the CHA CHA CHA steps.

Steps include: the  New Yorker, Triple steps (Chassez) and rock steps which are the basic components of the Cha Cha Cha, among others.  My favorite step was the New Yorker. 

2.  The Paso Doble section 

The Paso Doble section is great and steps are well done with the majestic march and the Spanish Torrero pose.  I find it more useful for toning the lower body.  Of couse, upper body toning is also included, it is more a low-intensity cardio.  The instructions are well done and Maksim demonstrates the character of a true “torrero”.  OLE! It is a good section to tone the legs, buns, arms, core. 

Steps include: chassez cape – where the man uses the woman as the cape to bring her around, the Apel (this is when the man stamps his foot as if he is  - trying to attract the bull’s attention). For a strong cardio exercise I go for the JIVE.

3. The Jive section 

On the other hand, the JIVE section, it is good too, but only when doing the “faster” steps, indications are not that clear on how to switch from moderate to “fast” steps to execute them well.  The section is taught by Ashly, Kym, and Maksim. The Jive section is the faster one, it is a high intenstiy workout.  This is where you really increase your heart beat and boost your metabolism to burn fat with the combination moves of the Lindy and Swing. 

Steps include: the basic movement chassez to the left chassez to the right and a rock step (meaning changing weight from one foot to the other), flick, ball, change movmeent (where you stand on one foot and kick down at the same time), kicking combination, etc..

Maksim is great, adorable, and transmit that confidence as you are talking to a big brother.  I love his enthusiasm and natural way of dancing even when doing shoulders shimmings. Maksim is a good example of a toned body. His upper body is terrific, plus those great shoulders… Go Maksim!

4.  The “SAMBA” section

This section is a basic international samba.  I was expecting more a “Brazilian” samba with more hips and abs movements.  Yet, it is good to learn basic steps and cause a good impression when dancing samba at a party.  It is a medium-intensity workout. So, go for it. By the way, Kym is the instructor of this section and she is great.  I admire her toned abs.  GREAT KYM!

Steps include: The Basic step Volta (which is a crossing action in front of the body, where you step across with the classic Brazilian bounce), the Botafogo, walking samba, etc..

The great “test” comes at the end. There is a Bonus Freestyle Routine that will test your new dance skills.  I recommend You’ll be sure to have fun while burning calories.

 Suggestions:

  • You can do it in the comfort of your own home.  Use a mirror to check your steps and how they look when dancing.  
  • Wear comfortable clothing, tights, or shorts to appreciate each step.
  • Do it at least 3 times a week.  Once you dominate the basic routine do the “Bonues Freestyle Routine” which will help you burn more stored fat faster and check your dancing abilities.
  • Make sure to have your bottle of water ( I usually have 3!)

From the scale of 1 to 10, I give this Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance an 8. Congratulations again to Ashly, Kym, and Maksim, and as Bruno Tonioli would say, “10!” for helping us learn how to dance the Cha cha cha, Paso Doble, Samba, and Jive while getting a toned body and losing pounds.

By the way, my favorite couple was “Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez.”  Joey Fatone and Apolo Anton are also terrific, very naturals! And who can forget the enthusiastic Cha cha cha and mambo of Cheryl Burke and  Emmitt Smith! It was delightful, pure latino flavor!

Anyone tried the Anti-Cellulite Serum?

I bought this Anti-Cellulite Serum, which sustains that  has been clinically tested.  Wanted to know if anyone has used it and what kind of results you get.

Looking 10 lbs. skinnier just by floating in the pool

You can look 10 pounds lighter. I just read this news on “First Magazine.” It says that a hot climate can cause the body to swell, spurring belly bloat.  Bloat is the body’s way of beating the heat since stored water is used to cool the body.  

Solution:   A dip in the pool.  Soaking in shoulder-deep water for 30 minutes can double urine output, relieving fluid retention to nix bloat, according to experts at hte University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.  The reason, they continue, is because hydrostatic pressure (water pushing on skin) forces trapped fluid into circulation so they can be excreted by the kidneys.
